UPM AWARDED 2 INTERNATIONAL FUNDS FOR AQUACULTURE RESEARCHES

Universiti Putra Malaysis (UPM) had been awarded 2 International funds for aquaculture researches. The first fund was awarded by European Union under the Trans-Eurasia Information Network (TEIN) program worth MYR 1 million. This research is about the Sustainable Aquatic Resource Management in Mangrove Ecosystems via Internet of Things Application (MEITA). It is a collaboration between Asia-Europe Universities & Industry (Malaysia, Belgium, Bangladesh, Philippines, China, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand & Ericsson). Some of the expected outcome are including the mangrove case studies, expansion of IoT applications in mangrove ecosystems, online course on mangrove science and technology, mangrove seminar and symposium community outreach program.

The other fund was awarded by IDRC Canada & GAMRIF United Kingdom. This Integrated Probiotic Quorum Quenching Strategies to Reduce Antimicrobial Resistance in Shrimp Aquaculture (i-QAS) research is worth MYR 4.2 million. Some of the expected impact and outcomes are including probiotic products - sustainable feed & enhanced water culture system, reduced antimicrobial resistance in shrimp products, Enhanced shrimp growth performance & health status, Increased aquaculture production & farmer income and Women empowerment in agriculture
